How will higher rates affect you?
As you know, interest rates have risen considerably over the past couple of years. But what does this mean to you, as a consumer and as an investor?

Local business and community leaders met last week with Brent Hagenbuch, the candidate that Texas Sen. Drew Springer wants to succeed him in representing Senate District 30 in 2025. Mr. Hagenbuch, the founder of Titus Transport of Denton, also has the backing of Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served ten years in the U.S. Navy before working in executive positions with Pepsico’s Frito Lay division, McKinsey & Company and FritoLay. He started Titus Transport 17 years ago and built it into a company with $170 million in revenue, he said. Mr. Hagenbuch became involved with the Denton GOP nine years ago and rose from precinct chairman to Denton County chair. The Senate race is “my first rodeo” as a candidate, he told the Olney crowd at Hometown Coffee & Tea.
Young County Commissioners made a final push for state funds to create a mobile mental health team that will provide home-based follow-up care for county residents dealing with mental illness. The Commissioners voted unanimously to hire the grant writing firm Strategic Economic Efforts of Wichita Falls to apply for an approximately $600,000 grant to fund the Critical Access- Rapid Response-Evaluation [CARRE] team for a year from $30-million set aside by the Texas Legislature last year for mental health care for families.
Olney turned out in force to celebrate homegrown businesses and the people who make them – and the community – run at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet at Durango’s Rustic Retreat on Feb. 1. The event drew about 250 people, including a cross-section of business, city and county officials and friends of the citizens who were honored for outstanding contributions to the community in 2023. Singer-guitarist Mando Molina serenaded guests as they mingled and enjoyed a fajita dinner catered by Dos Leones of Graham and a sopapilla cheesecake dessert by Shirley Jeter. The evening’s entertainment also included a silent auction.
