City leaders were on hand on Feb. 29 to watch a crew break ground on a new municipal swimming pool almost two years after Olney’s 1950s-era swimming pool was permanently shut down because of structural problems.
Olney teachers will see a 3.5 percent increase over last year’s district salary schedule, because the school board stepped in to raise teacher pay where state legislators failed to do so. The salary hike places the district’s salaries at about a 12% increase over the state minimum for an entry level teacher and around 14% over the state minimum for a 10th-year teacher.
The City will hold its annual citywide Cleanup Week earlier than usual - from March 22 through March 29 – so that Waste Connections can coordinate the delivery of large dumpsters that are used throughout its service area, City Secretary Tammy Hourigan said.
