Texas lawmakers made major moves on education policy last week, advancing a range of bills addressing school transparency, student services, and parental rights.
Representatives from the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank visited the Olney Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon on April 10 at the Young County-Olney Senior Cub Center to update members on how recent federal budget cuts could impact local food assistance programs.
With a warm spring sun overhead and a brisk breeze blowing, Olney Hamilton Hospital officials, staff, and community leaders gathered Monday morning to break ground on a new $33-million hospital that promises to continue the hospital’s 117-year legacy of care.
Banned Book Awareness is now on display at the Olney Community Library thanks to Laney Kimbro and Lori Cox. Kimbro’s project is a part of her Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council community service project requirement.
Olney residents will not head to the polls for the May 3, 2025, municipal election, as the city council officially canceled the election due to unopposed candidates. Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Stennett and council members Thea Sullivan and Steven Nurre were the only individuals to file for their respective seats. The races for Olney Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Olney Hamilton Hospital were likewise canceled for lack of opposing candidates.
