The Olney Independent School District has tapped one of its own to lead the next generation of student-athletes. Dustin Altmiller, an Olney High School alumnus and former Cubs quarterback, has been named the district’s new athletic director and head football coach.
The Olney Senior Cub Center overflowed with laughter, hugs, and heartfelt tributes as the community came together on July 11 to celebrate the retirement of one of its most beloved volunteers: Edwana Fikes. Balloons floated, banners dangled from the ceiling—cheeky messages like “Retired, Not Expired,” “Congratulations, Quitter!” and “Stop Asking Me to Do Stuff ”—all in honor of a woman whose warmth and work ethic have been the heartbeat of the Center for nearly 20 years.
Residents packed the Olney High School auditorium on Saturday for the First Annual Summer Variety Show, a heartwarming display of local talent that raised $1,700 to support the Olney Senior Cub Center’s feeding programs for area seniors.
