In 1977, I was in my late twenties with five children, a dog, and a husband. It was at that time that I decided to relocate to the city of Olney. I can still recall that journey as though it was yesterday. I remember striking out in our 1972 station wagon with a mattress on top. The mattress happened to blow off en route, and a nice gentleman had to catch up to let us know.
The Olney Recreation Association held its first annual skeet shoot on Saturday, Apr. 10. The event included a cornhole tournament, volleyball tournament and an all-day concession stand. The event also included music.
The annual fundraising fish fry for volunteer firefighters and first responders will be at the Fire hall in Newcastle Saturday, May 1. Your support is needed to help raise funds for the people who are usually the first people who arrive on the scene to save lives.
On April 7, The Olney Hamilton Hospital (OHH) partnered with - and hosted - Carter BloodCare in a blood drive held inside the hospital’s education building. Over 135 patients can now be helped thanks to the blood donated by the 45 donors.
On April 1 all across Texas, law enforcement held a ceremony that only lasted minutes, but had a deep meaning. The ceremony was called “Red and Blue.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott called upon all Texas Law Enforcement Agencies to turn on their lights at exactly 1:00 p.m. on April 1 in honor of Texas Trooper Chad Walker.
