The Olney High School Lady Cubs are in the fifth year of the volleyball program and this season’s team looks to be the strongest yet.
The Olney Cubs travelled to Windthorst to open preseason football with a scrimmage against the Trojans. The Cubs look to have a smaller, faster team except for a few big linemen, which will play in favor of the Cubs’ new offensive scheme. That looks like a run-and-gun-style offense, compared to the Veer offense the Cubs have used over the last seven years.

Newcastle Athletic Booster Club organized a backto-school bash for student athletes. The community packed the stands to meet and support the athletes as they took the field, being announced and recognized as each team excitedly exited the Bobcat football tunnel. Those speaking included coaches, seniors and a pastor giving a special talk on sportsmanship and a prayer. The halls of Olney Independent School District are buzzing once again as teachers and staff return to campus to prepare for the start of the new school year on Aug. 13. Classrooms are being decorated, lesson plans finalized, and registration underway as the district welcomes students back for what promises to be an exciting year of growth and change.
