Youth shine at 2024 Junior Livestock Show

The 2024 Young County Junior Livestock Show [YCJLS] has come and gone, and this year Olney and Newcastle saw some new success, some expected results and some not-so-expected results.

Olney and Newcastle FFA, 4H and private clubs dominated the rabbit and ag mechanics this year and had some success in lamb, swine and goat as well. Some dipped their beaks into a new category this year, showing chickens and many more of our youth entered into the floral arrangement competition.

It sure was a fun week watching all the many weeks of hard work put in by these students culminate into so many proud moments with much laughter and even a few tears of disappointment.

With passion for an event comes a great deal of emotion and I have to say all of the Olney and Newcastle youth handled this huge responsibility with pride, great manners, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude whether they placed or not.

Congratulations to all the youth who competed and also to all the familird, Ag teachers, arena workers, judges and Ag Extension personal who helped support the countless hours of work that go into a successful stock show each year.
