Winter Cocoa & Cookies with the Cubs

The Olney Athletic Booster Club, friends and family worked hard preparing cookies and cocoas for the first annual Meet the Cubs Winter Edition.

Players from the Lady Cubs and Cubs basketball and weightlifting teams received special recognition in front of friends, family and fans who filled the stadium. Afterward, there was a 3-point contest that #3 Brady Lisle, guard for the Cubs, won in a shootout. Then everyone piled into the atrium to enjoy cookies, cocoa and fellowship.

Olney ISD Athletic Director Gunter Rodriguez had some information to pass along about the OISD Sports Program: “We have revitalized and brought back our Powerlifting team under Coach Casey Keeter, who has done an outstanding job organizing and reviving the program. The Lady Cubs continue to improve and the Cubs are doing quite well, the Cubs look to be contenders in district and we are very excited.”

Lady Cubs Basketball Coach Joshua Reese had this to say about district play: “The girls started the season off slow but have come together to learn to play as a team.

“I believe we can make it past Archer City and Petrolia to enter into the playoffs, we have some new girls coming up through JV and I am excited for the future.”

Olney Cubs Basketball Coach Eric Symank said of the district season: “We are excited about the district season, we have shown signs of growth and have competed pretty well.

“We have been working towards our defensive goals and if the team starts to click at the same time, we will make some noise in district.”

Powerlift Coach Casey Keeter said: “The season will kick off in March alternating boys and girls on Tuesdays and Thursday. We have six boys and six girls with a couple looking like they will advance to state, we are pretty excited for the season to begin.”
