Vernon College Softball Field Named Field of the Year

The Vernon College Wade Kirk Field in Vernon, TX, is selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Turface Athletics as the NJCAA Division I field of the year for the 2018 school year.

Head Softball Coach, Brittanie Talley, says, “As a staff, this is a great honor. Many hours and long evenings of work went into this project and we are very proud of it. A tremendous thank you to administration for the recent additions and upgrades to our facility that played a large role in changing the appearance of the softball complex and to assistant coach Ron Frost for all of his dedication to ensuring the field is of Division I standards at all times.”

Vernon College will be formally recognized by the NFCA in front of all the other college coaches with the other award recipients at the NFCA convention in Chicago, IL.

Director of Vernon College Athletics, Julie Myers-Kuhn, acknowledges all of the behind the scenes efforts that made this possible, “This is not only a great honor for our softball program but for Vernon College as a whole. College President, Dr. Dusty R. Johnston, worked diligently with Vernon Auto Group to secure funding for the new scoreboard and provided tremendous administrative support for our recently constructed clubhouse. Coach Talley and Coach Frost have put in numerous hours on fieldwork and other features that led to this selection. Wade Kirk Field shines as a recruiting diamond.”

This is the inaugural year for this award and we are very excited to be the first ever recipients for DI Junior Colleges and set the standard for “Field of the Year” in seasons to come.

Dr. Dusty R. Johnston, Vernon College president, stated, “This is an outstanding honor for the Vernon College softball program and especially the coaches and others that take such great pride in the field. I am grateful that Vernon Auto Group has been such a great partner. All of our athletic programs appreciate the Vernon College board support for continued facility improvement.”
