School Board Updates

President Jake Bailey called the regular meeting of the Olney Independent School District’s Board of Trustees to order at 6:00 p.m. The meeting has been duly called, and a notice of this meeting has been posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Chapter 551, and that a quorum of board members was present.

Trustee Barrington provided an opening prayer. The Board reviewed the minutes from the August 24, 2020 called meeting. Motion by: Jeff Harvey Seconded by: Kenley Lane Motion to approve the August 24, 2020 Board minutes as presented. Motion Carried: 6-0

The Board reviewed the August 2020 Schedule of Bank & Investments Report. The Board reviewed the August 2020 Cash Receipts and Deposits Report. The Board reviewed the August 2020 Check Register Report. The Board reviewed the August 2020 Budget Summary Report. The Board reviewed the August 2020 Utilities Summary Report. Motion by: Kyle Hinson Seconded by: Dirk Barrington Motion to approve all the financial and utilities reports as presented. Motion Carried: 6-0

The Board agreed to move Agenda Item G2 regarding School Resource Office Inter-Local Agreement with the City of Olney to the next item of business.

Chief Birbeck addressed the Board with regard to the potential agreement between Olney ISD and the City of Olney. Motion by: Jeff Harvey Seconded by: Kenley Lane Motion to authorize Dr. Roach to work with Chief Birbeck on the development of an inter-local agreement for the services of a School Resource Officer.

The agreement will be presented to the Olney City Council and will be an agenda item for consideration at the OISD board meeting October 26, 2020. Motion Carried: 6-0

Dr. Roach discussed the Enrollment and Attendance reports. Olney Elementary School reported August 24th enrollment of 317, down two from end of school and up eleven from last year; Olney Junior High School reported enrollment of 157, down 17 from end of school and down 10 from last year; Olney High School reported enrollment of 191, up 29 from end of school and up 31 from last year; district-wide enrollment was 665, up ten from end of school and up 32 from last year.

Dr. Roach discussed potential uses for existing storage buildings and their removal.

Dr. Roach discussed the District’s COVID-19 status with compliments going to all the District’s personnel, and especially School Nurse Emily Norris, for ongoing efforts as the district addresses COVID-19.
