OJH Track Teams Score at Seymour District Meet

Olney Junior High went to Seymour on March 30 to compete in the District track meet. This year the OJH Cubs and Lady Cubs have had a long and successful track season with many road bumps passed throughout the season. There were a lot of personal records broken and lots of improvement from the seventh and eighth grade girls and boys.

Olney Junior High’s seventh grade girls finished in fifth with 64 points, the seventh grade boys finished in first with 155 points, the eighth grade girls finished in fifth with 82 points, and the eighth grade boys finished in 2nd with 112.5 points to finish off the track meet.

The girls seventh grade 4x100 relay got second. Melissa Melchor got second in the 800 meter run followed by Alison Santibanez getting 12th. Lainey Hill got seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, followed by Rilynn Bailey, who got eighth. In the 100 meter dash, Janie Sykora got third followed by Harper Watson in sixth and Lily Harrison in 19th. The seventh grade girls 4x200 meter relay got fourth with a time of 2:20. In the 400 meter dash, Melchor got fourth, followed by Audrinna Gray in 13th and Carliegh Symank in 16th. In the girls 200 meter dash, Sykora got first, followed by Harper Watson in sixth and Gray in seventh. Sykora got fifth in long jump with Denalee Wells in 11th and Lainey Hill in 16th. Lily Harrison got 10th in shot put followed by Audrey Stewart in 15th and Kaitlynn Vega in 20th. In girls discus, Harrison got ninth with Elaina Ray finishing 11th and Vega getting 13th. Wells got second in the pole vault.

The 8th grade girls 800 meter run finished with Ella Richard in second followed by Taylor Cadotte in fourth and Calyn Johnson in ninth. Teaguen Teague got third in 100 meter hurdles followed by Payten Oliver in fourth and Laney Kimbro in eighth. The eighth grade 4x200 meter relay got sixth with a time of 2:18. In the 400 meter dash, Libby Lane got first, followed by Kimbro in 11th. Lane got third in the 200 meter run followed by Teague in fourth and Johnson in 16th. In the 1600 meter run, Richards got second, Cadotte was fifth, and Symank was 10th. In high jump, Kimbro got second with a jump of 4-2. Symank got first in pole vault. In long jump, Lane got fifth, Johnson was ninth, and Oliver was 13th. Keela King got 10th in discus with Bailey Spurlock in 16th and Mddison Spurlock in 18th. In shot put, King got ninth, Brittany Flores got 16th, and Farrah Keeter was 17th.

For the seventh grade boys, the 4x100 meter relay got second. In the 800 meter run, Kameron Betts was first and Clayton Guthrie was third. In the 100 meter run, Santiago Hernandez got second, Cooper Tate was seventh, and Jasper Bishop was 15th. The 4x200 meter run got fourth. Ladarin Wilson got first in the 400 meter run, followed by Guthrie in fifth and Jacob Horner in 13th. Coy Shifflet got fifth in the 200 meter run. Betts got first and West Stephens got fifth in the 1600 meter run. The 4x400 meter run got first overall. Long jump ended with Wilson in first, Hernandez in third, and Stephens in 11th. Hernandez got first in high jump and Betts got fourth. In the triple jump, Wilson got first. In discus, Shifflet got first, Horner got eighth, and Adrian Manqueros was ninth.

For the eighth grade boys, Zeph Tejada was third in the 2400 meter run and Mason Johnson was fourth. The 4x100 relay was first, the 4x200 relay was seventh and the 4x400 relay was second. In the 800 meter run, Trent Berngen was fourth and Jaxxon Bedford was seventh. The 100 meter hurdles finished with Tray Long in third and Samuel Ickert in 14th. The 400 meter dash had Camdon Cortinez in third, Johson in 13th and Zayden Adkins in 14th. The 300 meter hurdles finished with Pace Hargis in fourth. Caleb Fobbs was fourth in the 200 meter dash and Bedford was seventh. Bergen was fourth in the 1600 meter run and Tejada was seventh while Johnson was ninth. Logan Villalpando was 10th in the shot put, Cade Hope was 15th and Ickert was 16th. For the high jump, Fobbs was fifth and Cortinez and Hargis tied for seventh. Berngen was first in the pole vault while Long was second in long jump, Hargis was fourth and Fobbs was sixth. Long was second in the triple jump with Cortinez finishing fifth and Berngen ending in ninth. In the discus, Trey Geter was fifth, Ickert was 11th and Villalpando was 17th.

All of these athletes battled at this track meet to gain points to win district. The 7th grade boys come out over the top with the win in district with everyone else being runners-up. They achieved an amazing goal this season looking for way more to do next season!
