Newcastle vs. Strawn

The Newcastle Lady Bobcats played their first basketball game of the new year, losing at Strawn by a score of 58-42. Newcastle fought hard, but ultimately came up short in a highly competitive game.

Jessa Burk lead all scorers for Newcastle with 13 points, followed by Senior leader and point guard Hannah Manos with 12 points. It was a group effort on the evening with Laura Burk adding 10 points and Ogari chipping in 7.

The Lady Bobcats only scored 16 points in the first half but came out strong in the second half, scoring 26 points and 14 of them coming in the fourth quarter. This team has had some unfortunate luck so far this season, only having five playersjust enough to play and playing in a game with only four players by the end of the game and still finding a way to win in the end.

Newcastle finished 2019 pretty strong, defeating Crowell on the road by a score of 45-30 and losing a nail-biter to Moran by just one point. It is good for teams to play in close games early on in the season, as this will help them in crunch time going forward in district play. The adversity in 2019 was a good amount to handle, but with 2020 upon us, the Lady Bobcats look to be bounce back as they take on Gordon on the road this week.
