Newcastle FFA Kicks Off New School Year Big

With the addition of another agriculture science teacher, Newcastle FFA has seen an increase in membership numbers. The officer team got together before school to lay out a year long calendar of activities, community service projects, fundraisers, and chapter meetings. First up was a State FFA Officer visit, that the officer team and eighth grade Principles of Agriculture students attended in Bryson. Members got to listen to the Texas FFA state president and first vice president speak about comfort zones and how to work as a team.

The beginning of homecoming week the Newcastle FFA had a “kicking off homecoming” event. This fun activity which boasted an attendance of forty-two people between the grades of eight through twelfth, where the Newcastle FFA members and Newcastle ISD students played kickball and ate ice cream afterwards. The FFA officers and a Junior FFA member rode the FFA float, and threw candy in the Newcastle homecoming parade on September first.

For the first chapter meeting of the new school year the FFA and parent meeting had a substantial attendance. The chapter meeting was attended by thirty-six Newcastle FFA members.

The chapter meeting was lead by the FFA officers consisting of: Cayden Rogers (President), Justice Johnson (Vice President), Cowan Rogers (Secretary), Grace Ogari (Treasurer); filled in by Jessa Burk, Cole Phillips (Reporter), Jazmine Hammond (Sentinel), and Ms.Meech (Advisor) while the parent meeting was lead by Mr. McMillan (Advisor).

In the meeting the officers informed the chapter membership of swine validation paperwork and payment, chapter sweepstakes, recruitment, LDE contest teams, fundraisers, community service activities, and as well as potential fun activities. In the parent meeting, Mr. McMillan and around fifteen parents of FFA members went over creating a booster club, assigning officers, parents spoke about upcoming events, and fundraising ideas.

Newcastle FFA is off to a great start this school year and has seen great growth already. We always welcome and encourage new membership; anyone that is 8 years old and in the third grade through seventh grade can join via our junior FFA membership which is only $5 for the school year. While high school membership (8-12) requires taking an agricultural class with Mr. McMillan or Ms. Meech.
