Newcastle Bobcats

The Newcastle Bobcats got a stellar victory Friday night against their rival the Bryson Cowboys 62-16 with the game ending a halftime.

It was a game that was played under inclement weather, but that did not matter to the Bobcats on this evening.

Newcastle got off to a hot start offensively, scoring six points less than a minute into the game. The Bobcats recovered an onside kick to make the score 22-8. Before long, the Bryson Cowboys came back down the field to score 8 over their own, making the score 22-16. At this point, every fan on each side of the stadium presumed that this would be a high scoring affair until the very end. Well, it turns out it was just high scoring for the Newcastle Bobcats, because once the Cowboys scored that second touchdown, they would not score again. With the Bobcat defense really being the catalyst behind this win, outscoring the Cowboys 40-0 from then on.

The seniors on this team really stepped it up, with JD Brice and JT Spurlin both scoring touchdowns throughout the game. JD Brice had a touchdown pass to his brother Lane Brice, to make the scoring 46-16 at the time. The very next possession saw JT Spurlin run in a touchdown to then make it 54-16.

Jacob McMillan put the icing on the cake with an incredible interception that he returned for a touchdown that sealed the deal for the Bobcats. “The win definitely was the boost we needed, especially being a big rival, “ senior JT Spurlin said. “In order for us to pick up this major win that we desperately need, we are going to need to execute defensively. Their line is very good so we must be much better and execute everything perfectly,” Spurlin added.

Newcastle takes on Saint Jo this upcoming Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. This game is a MUST win if the Bobcats want to have a shot at the playoffs.
