New basketball coach hosts summer camp

Eric Symank, Olney High School’s new head basketball coach of the Cubs, hosted a summer camp for new and seasoned players. Coach Symank said his goal for the camp was not only to teach essential skills, but to build enthusiasm among children who are just starting to play.

The camp was an overwhelming success, with a group of eager young campers excited about learning new skills and making new friends. Among the skills taught: how to warm up, dribble, pass and shoot.

Coach Symank has returned to Olney with wife Jamie, who works at Olney Hamilton Hospital as an ultrasound technician, and three sons, Wesley-7th grader, Caleb-4th grader and Raylan-2nd grader. An Olney High graduate, Coach Symank went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Midwestern State University and is going into his thirteenth year as a coach.

“We are building a winning program and doing what winners do to bring banners to the Olney basketball program,” said Coach Symank, who adds that he wants everyone to come out this year and to support these hard-working Cubs as they battle their way to a successful season.
