National Honor Society of Olney Sponsors Life Saving Blood Drive

The National Honor Society at OHS sponsored a blood drive Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Olney high school gym. Before the event even began 40 students had signed up to donate blood, as well as 20 teachers, alumni and community members.

“Each year the number of donors I am able to sign up grows,” said Michele Carpenter, M.Ed. “I think this speaks highly of the kind of students we have at OHS… very willing to help when they can. I am so proud of these kids.”

In the end, a record was set for the highest number of units collected from Olney. There were 75 donors with 51 units of whole blood, 13 units of red blood cells, eight units of platelets and three units of plasma donated. That makes a total of 75 units of life-saving blood. Way to go Cubs!
