The McClatchy Returns to ORA for the Third Year

The Olney Recreation Association [ORA] hosted the 3rd Annual “The McClatchy” Golf Tournament at the Olney Country Club the weekend of July 29. The Tourney was full to capacity with a long waiting list of golfers hoping for a cancellation, so as to be able to enter the tournament.

The tournament is named after longtime ORA member Jeff McClatchy, who was instrumental in furthering and improving every aspect of the ORA, event organizers said. After his death in 2019, ORA wanted to find a way to honor Mr. McClatchy, a valued ORA member and past board president.

ORA President Landon Rowe attributed the success of this year’s tournament to the hard work of the ORA board and their family and friends, as well as the many sponsors of the event. Proceeds from the tournament fund a scholarship in Jeff McClatchy’s honor, he said.

Mace and Cole McClatchy, sons of Jeff McClatchy, were on hand again this year to participate in the 3rd Annual Tournament.

“We’re flattered and thankful for the Club and everybody who helped put [The McClatchy] on,” Cole McClatchy said. “Dad would be very happy and excited about the things they’re doing out here and we are just very fortunate and feel really blessed to be here.”

Mr. Rowe expressed his gratitude “to all the sponsors and to all the people who helped in any way to make this year’s ‘The McClatchy’ a complete success.”
