Lady Cubs suffer setback in district play
The Olney Lady Cubs Volleyball team had a recent setback in their their district games.
The Lady Cubs lost their game on Tuesday, Oct. 1, against Archer City, as well as their game against Nocona on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The scores for the Archer City match were 25-17, 25-14, 25-21. The game against Nocona was lost in three sets and the scores weren’t available at press time.
“During the game against Archer City, the team just didn’t play to our full potential,” freshman Kynlee Lauderdale said. “On the other hand, the game against Nocona we played hard and kept up with them fairly well.”
Though the Lady Cubs had a tough break the last few games, the girls are working hard to compete in the six remaining district games.
“I feel as if we have the full potential to win the majority of the games,” Lauderdale said. “Even though we didn’t start off as strong, the team plans on putting in the work and putting up wins.”
The Lady Cubs have been working hard to communicate and stay focused during their games.
“Our team still does have some work that needs to be done,” Lauderdale said. “The overall issue we have currently is communication on the court and staying positive throughout the whole game. Everyone is working on mental toughness and is trying to stay locked in throughout the game.”
As a team, the Lady Cubs have learned many valuable lessons this season both on and off the court.
“We have learned to communicate, to encourage one another, and we are learning how to be better teammates to each other,” junior Brooklyn Bond said.
The Lady Cubs have a lot of goals for the season, but getting a gold ball is definitely one of them.
“I want our team to build together and go on district runs together,” Bond said. “I want us to build each other up, to win gold balls, and I want every single one of our names on a banner in the gym.”
