Lady Cubs run-rulled by Windthorst

The Windthorst Trojanettes made quick work of the Olney High School Softball Team, run-ruling the youthful Lady Cubs in the third inning 15-0.

Lady Cubs coach Mark McCorkle said the next few weeks will not be easy for the Lady Cubs, faced a Trojanettes team listed in the top 10 of the UIL Softball Coaches Association Poll Monday and will face more top-ranked opponents over their next four opponents.

"It's hard when you start out the district playing three of the four top teams in the district," McCorkle said. "They are probably all in the top 20 in the state and that is going to be our first three games. We're going to play Electra later this season in a doubleheader rather than play them Friday. We play the three best teams and that opens your eyes up really quick."

McCorkle said his players performed well on defense, despite a few outfield errors, and believes they are making progress. He believes playing elite teams, like Windthorst, gives his players concrete examples of their aspirations.

"There is a reason they are ranked in the top 10," McCorkle said. "They played in the state tournament last year and got a lot of their girls back ... You realize they know what to do with the ball and when. You watch the dedication they have. This is the only way you are going to get that."
