Lady Cubs Play with Heart in District Match-UP

The Lady Cubs hosted the Seymour Lady Panthers in district play, where the Lady Cubs fought with heart, grit, and pride but failed to secure the win. The final score was 30-47 for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Cubs put up one heck of a fight against the Lady Panthers but are missing a star player, #11 Aubrey Daugherty, who is out with injury. #21 Katelynn Bailey of the Lady Cubs, another star standout for the Lady Cubs, did all she could to make up for her teammate’s absence, scoring 20 points for the game and giving the Lady Panther shooters a headache trying to get around her defensive capabilities.

Rhyan Daugherty, head coach for the Lady Cubs, spoke on the season before the Lady Panther matchup: “The seasons have been going okay. We’ve played a pretty tough schedule. We went to the Graham Tournament and Breckenridge tournament and for both of those we played the majority of 3A, 4A, and 5A schools, so record-wise it doesn’t look like we’re doing very good but we’ve played a tough schedule. District is going to be tough as always,[and I] feel like Seymour and Nocona are at the top, and then basically [you’ve] got the rest of the district teams battling for the last few spots, between Archer City, Windthorst, Petrolia, and the Lady Cubs. Let’s pack the house for every game, home game or away. Come and support both Cubs and Lady Cubs. Be loud! We try to feed off the crowd and the more the crowd gets into it the more we can get into it and we have a good time when we have the gym rocking wherever we are.”

Standouts for the Lady Cub game include #3 Natalie Rodriguez floating a basket, #10 Ellie Hinson for 2 under the basket and landing one free throw and playing with grit on defense, #15 Abby Guerra sinking one basket, landing one free throw, #21 Katelynn Bailey could not be contained, scoring 20 points two from outside the line and kept Lady Panthers scrambling on offense. #22 Emily Marquez played a solid defensive game, gritty and full of heart. Marquez scored three free throws for the night. Please come out and support your Lady Cubs for Senior night on Feb. 3, when they will host Petrolia in district play. Fight on Lady Cubs!!!
