Lady Cubs move into district play

The Lady Cubs recently matched up against the Windthorst Lady Trojans in a year ending battle hosted at the Olney Cubs Gym. They Lady Cubs fell to the Lady Trojans with a score of 30 - 66 to open their district play.

Lady Cub #15 Abby Guerra fought hard in the first period leading fellow teammates in scoring with 4 points - 2 of which were successful penalty buckets. #5 Jaden Jacoba was fouled and sunk one of 2 free-throws. #22 Kami Bednarz and #23 Marisol Lozano each pressed the opponents defense for 2 points each. The Trojans were just too strong for the Lady Cub defense, scoring 19 in the first period.

Second period went much the same as the first with Cubs scoring 8 and Trojans 15. #4 Keirah Wilk sank 2 free-throws. #5 Jaden Jacoba was good for 2 and #15 Abby Guerra came through with 4 points.

Third period #22 Kami Bednarz showed heart scoring 2 buckets with #10 Kiara Allen and #12 Sarah Stroud each putting a free-throw in for 1 point ending the third period with the Lady Cubs 6 and Trojans 14.

Fourth period #5 Jaden Jacoba stepped up scoring 5 points, one from the outside for 3 and 2 on the line for 2. #12 Sarah Stroud was fouled which gave her the opportunity to show her accuracy on the line by sinking both freethrows.

Head Lady Cub Coach Kortney Holyfield had this to say of the Lady Cubs season, “The season has been up and down so far just because of all the COVID-19 stuff, with quarantined kids, along with myself having it. Everyone has been dealing with it really well, so we are finally getting everybody back and healthy, we are ready to go.”

In closing Coach Holyfield stated that their goal as of now is to focus and work towards making it to the playoffs. Fight on Lady Cubs!!!
