JV Cubs face Archer City Wildcats

The Olney Junior Varsity Cubs faced off against the Archer City Wildcats on Thursday, September 27, at Cub Stadium. The Wildcats won the coin toss but opted to receive in the second half. The first quarter had the Wildcats scoring a touchdown despite the strong defense put up by the Cubs, but Aiden Phillips did prevent the extra point. The Cubs offense was unable to score, despite Luis Marquez getting several first-downs. The first quarter ended with the Wildcats in the lead, a score of 6-0. The Archer City Wildcats scored again in the second quarter despite a strong defensive show by the Cubs, with take downs by Caleb Robinson, Aiden Phillips, Haydon Carter, Landon Belyeu, Donovan Valdez, Johnathan Melchor, Oswaldo Hernandez and Jesse Sosa. Able Tellez had a huge kick return, but the halftime buzzer sounded before the Cubs could make anything of it. The score at the end of the second quarter was 14-0. The Cubs scored early in the third quarter, as Luis Marquez ran the ball into the endzone, but the Wildcats got a touchdown on the kick return. Haydon Carter was able to keep them from the extra point. Despite a 21-yard carry by Jesse Sosa, the Cubs were unable to score in the third quarter. The fourth quarter began with a score of 20-6. The Wildcats recovered a fumble by the Cubs and were able to turn it into a touchdown with the extra points being good. Luis Marquez put in a monstrous effort that lead to a Cubs touchdown. The game ended with a Wildcats victory and a score of 26-12.
