JV Bobcats Battle Jaybirds to a Tie

The Newcastle High School Junior Varsity Bobcats hosted the Jayton Jaybirds, a team known for its high-level football program, and showed early on that they weren’t interested in predictions.

The Bobcats put on a textbook display of how to dominate a six-man football game, building a lead of more than 12 points and keeping the Jaybirds on their heels through much of the first three quarters.

But the Jaybirds finally woke up in the third quarter and began clawing their way back into the game. By the end of the fourth quarter, Jayton had erased the Bobcats’ lead and tied the battle at 25-25.

With overtime reserved for varsity play, the game ended in a tie. Both teams fought hard and had plenty of reason to walk off the field with their heads held high.

The varsity Bobcats also faced the Jaybirds, traveling to Jayton for a district showdown. This time, Newcastle made sure there would be no tie, coming away with a hard-fought 58-52 victory over their district rivals.

Fight on, Bobcats!
