Historical marker for sports

Thursday, Sept. 10 was the first day in the history of American professional sports that the NFL, NBA, MLB, the PGA Tour and Nascar all performed on the same day. It has been a wild few weeks in the sports world to say the very least and things are beginning to really heat up as the NBA playoffs and MLB regular season are both nearing the end.

The Western Conference Finals in the NBA will begin Thursday, Sept. 17--which is considered to be the series we have all been waiting for between presumably the Lakers vs the Clippers. History will be made in either direction if either the Lakers or Clippers win the championship--with either Lebron or Kawhi Leonard becoming the first player in NBA history to lead three different teams to NBA championships. If the Clippers do not prevail in game 7 against the Denver Nuggets, Denver will have overcome two 3-1 series deficits this season--with the first coming against the Jazz and now against the LA Clippers. The Lakers have only gotten better as the playoffs have proceeded, while the Clippers have had both their ups and downs through the first two rounds--including a difficult match up in the first round with the Dallas Mavericks. Although the Mavericks were defeated, every Mavs fan should be ecstatic for the future of the franchise after watching Luka Doncic destroy the competition in the six games that were played against the Clippers. Luka has proven himself to arguably be the best 20-year-old the game of basketball has ever seen and will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come in Dallas.

In other Dallas sports news, the Cowboys played their first game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 13, losing a close game on the road to the LA Rams, after some questionable calls in the 4th quarter that favored the Rams--including a pass interference call that would have put the Cowboys at the Rams 21 yard line to either tie or take the lead. There is no need to panic yet for Dallas in a division where the Eagles are the only Other experienced team in the playoffs. The Chiefs took care of business to begin their 2020- 2021 campaign, picking up right where they left off by defeating the Houston Texans. In baseball news, it has been announced that the new Globe Life Park in Arlington will be the site of the 2020 World Series. MLB announced that they will be entering a bubble format once the postseason begins, and although the Rangers might not be playing in the postseason this year, the new ballpark will be on full display for baseball fans everywhere!
