Electra too much for Cubs

OLNEY— The Olney Cubs suffered one of their worst losses after falling 58-23 to Electra, who looks to enter the upcoming playoffs as a first seed.

Electra put the game out of reach early with the Tigers holding the Cubs scoreless until nearly 5 minutes into regulation with senior guard Brent McCorkle, who would lead the Cubs in scoring with 9 points, hitting the Cubs first bucket on a jumper.

“They are better than we are,” Olney coach Carl Pennington said. “We would have to play a perfect game to beat them ... You have to have a perfect game plan and execution and we didn’t. They are better than we are.”

Pennington said the Cubs will need to win their next two games against Quanah Friday and Munday Tuesday to insure a playoff spot.

Although the Cubs handily defeated both teams earlier this season, Pennington said nothing is guaranteed in high school basketball.
