Cubs Varsity Football blanks Eagles

On Sept. 16, the Cubs Varsity Football team triumphed over the Temple Christian Eagles 36-0.

Camron McComack scored twice on a 6-yard run and a 5-yard run. Eli Clayton’s touchdown came on a 1-yard run. Cye Dixon rumbled into the end zone on an 11-year scamper. Jose Castillo caught a 20-yard pass for 6 points. And Jacob Hernandez kicked a 33-yard field goal.

Coach Jason Powers said he was proud of the effort and excited to see where his team grows from here.

“From the beginning of the year until now we have come a long ways,” Powers said. “We are starting to put it together offensively. Our quarterbacks are getting better at reading the defense and our backs are doing a better job of setting up their blockers in order to cut down on penalties.

“As a coach that is the fun part to me. It’s all about the process and being able to watch the team grow throughout the year.”

Coach Powers also thinks that his defense has improved drastically.

“Defensively we have come a long way as well,” he said. “From the first scrimmage until now we look like night and day. Our defense gave up a total of 1 yard on Saturday. We will continue to lean heavily on our defense as we start beginning preparations for district.”
