Cubs Season Begins with Blow Out Against Bulldogs

The Olney High School Cubs opened the basketball season with a home game against the Prairie Valley Bulldogs.

The Cubs put a leash on the Bulldogs with a dominant victory, 70-23, and sent a statement, loud and clear, to the district: this is the Cubs’ season.

Coach Eric Symank’s dedication to the Cubs basketball program is paying dividends this season after a year of preparation and extracurricular basketball programs over the off season.

Coach Symank is exactly what was needed to right the ship of the sinking Cub basketball program over the past few years.

Look for the Cubs to make a drive straight into the playoffs this season.

Come on and cheer your Cubs at the next home game on Dec. 2, versus Garner beginning with the Junior Varsity game at 5 p.m. and the Varsity game to follow.

Some highlights from the win over the Bulldogs include: #22 Eli Clayton being named Coach Symank’s ‘player of the game’ for his defensive prowess, helping to keep the Bulldogs offense to a low number for 3 periods.

#2 Ryder Lisle and #15 Luke Lane kept the Bulldog defenders off-balance all-night, scoring 12 points each, with Lisle scoring from outside the paint and drives to the basket and Lane dominating under the bucket, often driving through defenders like a snowplow through a blizzard.

#11 Tucker Cortinez tipped the game off and led the Cubs in scoring 14 points with a bombardment of floaters and drives to the basket.

It takes a team to win games, and this season’s Cubs are more than a team they are brothers on the boards; they are fighting for each other and for a coach who has instilled pride, dedication and honor in this season’s Cubs.

Fight on, Cubs!
