Cubs Maul the Tigers in District Battle

The Olney Cubs Varsity Football team hosted the Anson Tigers for a district game on Oct. 13. The Cubs continued with a controlled aggression on offense and the swarm mentality of the defense to overtake the Tigers 3114. This game was a must win for play-off potential and the Cubs stepped up and delivered. Offensively, the Cub rushed for 333-yards and receptions totaled 9-yards. The Cubs kept penalties down to just four for 35-yards and one turnover, much improved over the past two games. Anson took the lead early with a 2-yard run in and a good PAT for 7. The Cubs pushed down the field, eating away at the clock, and finished the drive with a 3-yard punch in by QB Gatlin Guy for 6 and a good PAT by Jacob Hernandez, tying the score 7-7 moving into the second quarter.

Quarter two had the Cubs exacting their will on the Anson defense, pushing down field ending with a 12-yard run for 6 by Gatlin Guy and a good PAT by Jacob Hernandez. The Tigers fired off a 49-yard reception good for 6 and a good PAT, tying up the game moving into halftime.

The Cubs came fired up out of halftime during the third quarter with Gatlin Guy rushing downfield on a 46-yard rush ending in 6 and a good PAT from the Cubs reliable kicker Jacob Hernandez. The Cubs defense held up against the Tigers allowing the Cubs to hold the Tigers back with no return score. The Cubs pushed down field and settled for a 17yard field goal by Jacob Hernandez, ending scoring in the third quarter.

By the fourth quarter, the Cubs offense and defense had worn the Tigers down and the Cubs notorious Veer offense methodically pushed down the field eating away at the clock. Gatlin Guy drove through defenders with a 14-yard run for 6 and Jacob Hernandez had a good PAT. Final score Cubs-31 Tigers-14. Fight on Cubs!!!
