Cubs, Lady Cubs place fourth at regional tournament

The Olney High School girls and boys golf teams headed to the regional golf tournament early Sunday. The teams took to the course on Monday, April 17, to compete in their first round. The second round started with nail-biting scores and endless possibilities, then ended with both teams winning fourth place on Tuesday, April 18.

“ I think we did exceptionally well this year as we did not finish the way we wanted last year,” senior Cooper Lane said. “Although we did not place the way we wanted, we achieved our goal of breaking 330 in tournament play.” The Lady Cubs were the first to tee off on Monday at 7:30 a.m. The girls ended the first day in fourth place with a total of 395 strokes. Leading the Lady Cubs on day one, Ellie Hinson had 96 strokes, Katelynn Bailey had 98 strokes, Aubrey Daugherty had 99 strokes, and Peyton Elliott had 102 strokes.

Along with the Lady Cubs, the Cubs teed off on Monday afternoon at 12:30. The Cubs ended the first day in third place with a total of 323 strokes. Leading the Cubs, Caleb Johnson had 78 strokes, Gatlin Guy had 78 strokes, Brason Brock had 81 strokes, Brady Lisle had 86 strokes, and Lane had 93 strokes.

The Lady Cubs took to the course on day two looking to move into a spot for state. A hole-in-one by Katelynn Bailey gave the team more motivation to achieve their goal. The Lady Cubs ended day two with a total of 396 strokes, missing a chance at state by only four strokes. Leading the Lady Cubs on day two, Hinson had 91 strokes, Bailey had 97 strokes, Elliott had 98 strokes, and Daugherty had 110 strokes.

Alongside the Lady Cubs, the Cubs took to the course on day two looking to solidify a spot for state. The Cubs ended day two with a total of 329 strokes, missing a spot at state by 15 strokes. Leading the Cubs on day two, Brock had 76 strokes, Johnson had 80 strokes, Guy had 86 strokes, Lane had 87 strokes, and Lisle had 88 strokes.
