Cubs fall to Hawley

The Varsity Cubs lost their Oct. 18 football game to the Hawley Bearcats, 52-6, after a homecoming blowout the previous week.

After the homecoming win on Oct. 11 against TLCA Abilene with a score of 35-6, everyone was even more motivated to win against Hawley.

The Bearcats scored a touchdown early in the game, but the Cubs followed them and also made a touchdown right afterwards. Rylan Carter scored a 53-yard running touchdown. After that touchdown, Olney lost the focus and the Bearcats scored a couple times. The halftime score was 46-6.

Olney came out of the halftime with a new formation and a new mindset.

In the second half, Olney clearly played better. Hawley scored just one touchdown in the second half. The coaches said they were satisfied with the second half.

“I am not saying that you didn’t play hard and physically in the first half, but in the second half it just stood out more,” Coach Chris Tobola told the players.

“This game is done,” Coach Keeter said after the game. “We can not worry about the score anymore. Now we have to move on and focus on the next game.” .

The Cub’s need to win one out of three games, to qualify for the playoffs.

The Cubs face off next in a home game for Senior Night against Stamford at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1
