Cubs Battle Pirates In Summer Baseball Program

The Cubs notched a tie game in a double header last week against the Petrolia Pirates in summer league. .

Varsity and head coaches are restricted from participating in summer leagues per University Interscholastic League rules, so others must step in to fill the role of coach.

Head Baseball Coach Jason Jacobs stopped by the Cub baseball field before the double header against the Pirates to give advice and pep up the Cubs.

“The summer league is made up of over ten cities, teams are made up of JV, Varsity and athletes who have graduated eighth grade,” Coach Jacobs said. “We are trying to give the less experienced players reps and get them used to the speed of the game.”

Coach Jacobs said they aren’t using the summer league as a way to see whether players would be good for certain positions next season but for the athletes to have fun over the summer, learn skills, learn new positions and get experience in baseball at a Varsity level.
