Cubs battle the bulldogs in District Opener

The Olney Cubs hosted the Stamford Bulldogs for the Cubs district opener on Sept. 30 in a game marred by several missteps, resulting in a 13-22 loss to the Bulldogs. The Cubs began strong, staying up with the Bulldogs until the fourth quarter, thanks to fierce fighting from the Cubs defense. The Cubs defense just couldn’t make up for the offense’s four fumbles and one interception at key placements on the field that put the Bulldog offense within striking distance to the goal and changed the momentum for both teams.

The Cubs offense pushed at the Bulldogs with 301-yards. A few questionable penalties against the Cubs, including a personal foul had most fans scratching their heads at the referee’s call. Geo Rockmore continues to lead the pack as offensive player of the game with 164-yards.

Defensive player of the game goes to Louis Castillo with two tackles and 13 assists. Castillo was consistently within striking distance of a Stamford offense that seemed to stall against the Cub defense for most of the night. The defense held the Bulldogs to 224-rushing yards and 73-yards reception. The Cub defense kept the game from getting out of hand and deserves to be recognized. The Cubs play in Cisco for round two of district play on October 7. Fight on Cubs!!!
