Cubs’ new baseball coach hosts summer camp

Olney ISD hired a new head baseball coach. Coach Braden Williams wasted no time getting to work by hosting a summer baseball camp. The purpose of the camp, held at the refurbished Olney Baseball Complex, was to teach new players the fundamentals of baseball and instill an appreciation and love for the game, Coach Williams said. Coach Williams had some help from Olney High School Cubs Varsity Baseball Pitcher Jordan Jacoba. The two led the children through stretching routines then began teaching the fundamentals of throwing and catching the ball, later moving into several other exercises teaching essential skills.

Coach Williams graduated from Texas Tech University and this will be his eighth year coaching. He coached in Lubbock for five years before coming to Olney with his wife, Taylor, and son Hudson. Coach Williams said he developed a love of the game at a very young age from his dad, who was a head coach his entire career. Coach Williams expressed his gratitude to OISD for giving him the opportunity to coach the Cubs, and he said he is excited for the season to begin.
