Cub athletes qualify for Junior Olympics
Two Olney Cubs will compete in track and field events in the upcoming Junior Olympics hosted by the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States in Des Moines, Iowa.
Rylan Keeter (long jump and triathlon) and Jaxxon “Jaxx” Laurent (3,000-meter run) will represent Olney at the eight-day track-and-field meet at Drake University from July 29-Aug 5.
Mr. Laurent ran his first 5K race when he was four years old and has since run about 50 more, his mom Sabrina Laurent said.
He plans to run track and cross country and play basketball for Olney High School, where he will be a freshman this year, she said.
The two Cubs placed in the top contenders at district and region meets as part of a Wichita Falls track team called Furosity, coached by Robert “Scooby” Brooks. Olney is proud of these two and look forward to their success. Go Cubs!
