Many Olney residents may already know and follow along with a regular local Facebook live show titled, “The Coaches Show.” The show is produced weekly on Thursdays around noon, for the Olney Athletic Booster Club. The show is hosted by Olney Mayor Rue Rogers and Jack Bailey, Manager of Tower Extrusions. Pastor of First Baptist Church of Olney, Chad Edgington, handles all the production, technical aspects of the show and broadcasting. Olney ISD Athletic Director and Head Coach of the Olney Cub Football Team Jody Guy, is the regular interviewee of the show.

The show is mostly about the Olney Cubs Football Team, but does include other highlights of Olney ISD sports.

Besides the weekly show, the trio who makes “The Coaches Show” possible also produces a live broadcast of Friday Night Football with the Cubs. The Friday night broadcast has others who help make the show possible, along with the commentary from Bailey and Rogers. Both productions have become very popular with Olney residents, as well as out of town fans, according to Bailey.

Bailey said the show first got started about five or six years ago after the team was approached by a radio station looking to fill a spot in their programming. With the help of Coach Rodriguez, the team began broadcasting the games for the AM station.

After the radio station approached the show’s team about going long term with the show, “The Coaches Show” decided to produce and broadcast the show on their own. Bailey said it was costly to produce the show with the radio station and the advertisers they would need would not be local or keep dollars in Olney. The team decided to pick up advertisers for the show that are local to Olney and then donate the funds made by the show to the Olney Athletic Booster Club.

The team decided to produce the show as a Facebook live show because it would be very cost effective and their show would reach further and capture a larger audience. Bailey says one of their biggest advertisers and supporters is Bob Hamilton, who lives in Georgetown. Hamilton grew up here and had many fond memories of Olney and the Cubs, according to Edgington.

The team works closely with Coach Guy and the Booster Club to find out where best to spend money raised by the show. One major purchase most may be familiar with is the giant cub blowup helmet that the Olney Cubs run out of before a game. Bailey said the funds just don’t go solely to the Cub Football program. The funds go towards any area that might need extra funding, such as team sport photos or equipment for basketball or baseball.
