Looking Back: Olney History Series Olney’s First Hotel

Welcome back, friends of Olney History. The year is still 1892; Olney continues to advance into the future. The first hotel was built—The Linzy Hotel. Records show it was put up for sale in 1922 by F.A. Sutherlin. However, the records do not indicate if Sutherlin was the builder. Later in the year 1927, the Linzy burnt to the ground, according to the Young County portion of, “The TXGenWeb Project. The Linzy Hotel was a landmark in the Olney community and a place for all to engage in what would become legendary.

I grew up with a father who listened to me. He didn’t just listen to me–he sought out my thoughts and opinions and was interested in my ideas and my delights and my sorrows. I never got the impression that he thought of me as a “hysterical female” or that he was inwardly rolling his eyes at me. In my writing, he’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders, encouraging me to be bold in telling the truth. And he often texts me after I’ve written something, claiming that he learned from it or that it spoke to him in some way.

Dear Christian, let us not be deceived concerning our salvation and where we shall spend eternity. The truth is we will either enter into God’s eternal kingdom to spend eternity with Jesus Christ, Who took upon Himself the wrath of God for all who would come to Him, or we shall perish under the torments of hellfire where God’s justice will be poured out upon those who reject Him.
