Will B. Reminiscing

Well by now everyone is pretty much hunkered down for the shelter in place order. There will be some tense moments, as people get on each other’s nerves from time to time. But in years to come, you will only remember the good parts and not the occasional bickering or occasional fight.

Sure, my brothers fought and bickered growing up but those aren’t the memories that stick with me. I remember when you messed with one of us you messed with all of us. I remember building forts, playing hide and seek with the whole neighborhood, sleep overs, staying up all night watching movies, Saturday morning cartoons then playing outside all day with the other kids in the neighborhood.

The point being is to not focus on the negative and try to focus on creating memories for those around you that will carry them through times like this.

I always try to look for the positive in everything. I know I am one of those annoying people who always looks for the silver lining on a cloudy day and always will have a kind word and smile for a stranger or friend alike. I am big on manners.

When I look back at activities and memories I thought happened naturally, were actually carefully crafted activities of my mom to keep us distracted, occupied or learn something. Silly us just thought we were having fun.

It is more important than ever to have manners, be courteous, have a warm smile and come up with distractions for each other. I am sure you have plenty of ideas but some to do are building a fort out of sofa cushions, pretend the ground is covered in lava and try to get to the side of the room, play board games, have a cooking challenge with a set of ingredients and see what everyone comes up with. Top Chef Olney you know, play charades on zoom or just sit with a cup of tea or coffee and talk. These are all fine distractions I am sure you will be more creative than I am.

This may be God’s way of saying, HEY PEOPLE slow down and enjoy each other’s company before the years pass you by. So give everyone a big hug each day, tell em you love them, and start making those memories because before you know it, life will go back to normal with a full schedule of activities and work and we will be wishing for a few extra minutes or hours to connect with those we love that we are too busy to connect with because we are just too busy again.

This is Will B. saying stop and smell the roses while you can.
