Nourished

Every morning we hustle about getting ready for the day. For most we make coffee, take a shower, maybe make lunch for the day or get the kids ready for school, then we make breakfast to nourish our bodies, to give us energy for the morning to come.

The nourishment I am speaking of is spiritual nourishment and is much more important than food for the body. Spiritual nourishment is a necessity for every practicing worshiper of God. It keeps us on track for the day, it guides us throughout the day and our lives, if we let it. It should be our moral compass.

John 6:26 says “Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

Jesus had just finished feeding the crowds with fish and loaves of bread that he produced through a miracle. What he is conveying after performing the miracle is that the miracle and food provided are not what was important. What is important is our spiritual growth and the nourishment we find in the word of God and in the walk. We walk as followers of Christ Jesus.

None of us is perfect. Only God is perfect and so are his plans for us. We cannot hope to follow God’s plan in our life if we are not diligently studying the word of God daily. How, when, and where we get our daily nourishment from the Bible and prayer is up to you. For me, I choose early in the morning before I start my day, with coffee of course. When is your time? For some, it is a quiet time in the evening or maybe on lunch break under a tree or in a park. This is Will B saying, nourish your soul daily and coffee is always optional.
