Will B. Hating Winter
Well, it’s that time of the year that I dread more than any other season. Old man winter has arrived. If you know anything at all about me, you know Old Man Winter and I do not see eye to eye.
There are many reasons why I dread winter. My A.S. and arthritis flare up more. When I bump my hand on things outside, it hurts twice as bad. Anyone that has had to work on a car in the winter will back me up on that one. It’s just plain uncomfortable and having to put on so many layers it’s hard to move around, it’s just plain awkward and uncomfortable. These are only a few of the many things, but the main reason being is I just plain hate to be cold!
OK, OK, now that I have said all that mess, let me say it is not all bad. There are some things I love about winter that aren’t the same when it’s not bitterly cold. My definition of bitterly cold by the way is any temperature below 60 degrees.
The very top of my list is snuggling with my wife under blankets on the couch watching movies. Nothing makes me nap better than the wonderful feeling of being next to my heart snuggled up against the bitter cold watching movies. Next up on the list is one step down, having my dogs snuggled up next to me on the couch. My dog Dodge, he is a big old sweet dog who loves to snuggle. Next on the list is, of course, food and drink. I generally don’t drink too much Cocoa. I am a coffee drinker, but on bitterly cold days, there is nothing better than a big ole mug of Swiss Miss cocoa with mini marsh mellows on top. I love to cook, so of course, there are numerous dishes I love to cook in cold weather. Chili, Stews, roasts, briskets and soups top the list, but the list is too long to name all the best cold-weather fare.
Lastly and by no means least, is the holidays. There was a time when I dreaded them, but with the help of a loving wife, I have grown to enjoy them again. Anyone who has lost a lot of loved ones will know this fact. Because holiday memories are tied so closely to family and friends, it’s hard to separate the two and enjoy them without those loved ones you once enjoyed at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
There are many reasons to hate or love a thing, but it’s up to each one of us to find the love in the thing we hate; otherwise, you will wind up hating everything and having a miserable life. I just bet if you take a few minutes to really think about it, you too can find something good in something bad.
This is Will B. saying, look for that silver lining on a stormy day.
