Camping

Will B. Camping

I was recently reminiscing about a camping trip I took with GiGi and the kids. I remember it very fondly and believe it was a lot of fun. Which is strange because almost half a day was spent figuring out a tent I had never put up and, on another day, it was raining cats and dogs. There was even a tornado warning and our tents would have blown away if we were not in them.

I wouldn’t change a thing though; those little surprises are one of the reasons camping is so fun. The other reason is the unplugging from everything. I think it was the first weekend I spent with GiGi and the kids, it was kind of a test of sorts because GiGi takes her camping very seriously and my liking camping was a must. Thankfully I love to camp and fish, I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout and grew up fishing and camping.

When the rain came GiGi, Nakohna, and I all huddled in her tent waiting for the storm to pass. It was cozy and I really enjoyed being able to hold GiGi close during the storm. The storm passed and thankfully we did not end up in Oz. Later as we sat around the campfire, one of my favorite things to do while camping, we re-lived old camping memories with each other.

I think one of the main reasons I love to camp is disconnecting from everything and reconnecting with those around me and with nature. I do not get to go camping enough but we can get that same disconnect while at home, we just need to turn the phones, TVs, and computers off and enjoy each other’s company with no distractions. Maybe play a board game or do a puzzle. I am not the biggest fan of puzzle building but could sit through one every so often. Do you enjoy camping? Take a few minutes out of your day and think about some of those trips. What are some ways you and your family can reconnect? This is Will saying, pull up a log next to the fire and pass the marshmallows!
