Thankful this Thanksgiving

It’s that time of year again, fall holiday season kicking up. It starts with Halloween and moves through Thanksgiving then on into winter and Christmas. It will be a blur of coats in the morning and shorts in the afternoon, sugar rushes with Halloween candy and Thanksgiving delights, then into Christmas with ham and so many cookies and pies that are tummies may burst.

But what will stick out most is all the memories made with friends and family: a community Halloween parade, Trunk or Treats, Fall Festivals at church, a tree-lighting ceremony with the closeknit Olney community all huddled at the Pavilion off Main Street for hot cocoa, singing carols.

There will be plenty of church events as we gather to fellowship for Thanksgiving - houses full of friends and relatives with the smell of turkey roasting in the oven, kids laughing and playing outside tossing the football, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on the tube.

Soon there will be the sound of logs sawing on the couch or easy chair as Uncle or Paw Paw snoozes away too much turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings.

The Cowboys can be heard just barely in the background over all the snoozin. Later, after naps, it’s time for five different kinds of pie and as twilight approaches, late evening games of football can be seen and heard in front yards all over Olney and the ladies gathered around the kitchen table putting together a puzzle or reminiscing about Thanksgivings past.

This is the time of year to make new memories, remember old memories and even look to the future as the New Year approaches. As Christmas nears, it will be a rush of shopping, gift crafting, late lunches with friends or a quick cup of coffee or pumpkin spice something or other with friends after a hectic morning of Christmas shopping.

There will be fellowship meals at church and big family gatherings to exchange gifts and memories, with plenty of eggnog and other sweet treats. Christmas soon passes and for most it’s time to make plans for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s resolutions that maybe just maybe - we can succeed at this year.

Friends, family and the community will gather for New Year’s Eve parties to celebrate and remember all the good times from years past and look towards the future and what it holds.

This is Will B saying, enjoy this special time of year with friends and family and make many great memories because tomorrow iws never promised.
