Taylor - Made The Broad or the Narrow

Taylor - Made The Broad or the Narrow

I woke up last Saturday a bit early for it being my day off. Instead of going back to sleep like I normally would though, I decided to make some coffee and sit on my back porch. With nothing but the birds chirping and my cat Starfox prowling around in the grass, I started thinking about how my life would be easier had I only taken different paths in my life. Then I remembered the following scripture:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14

While taking a different path might have made my life easier, an easier life would mean that I was leading myself away from Christ. The broad road is a wide road. In other words, it is the easier path to take and wide enough to carry all my sins with me. Those that are on this road are the immoral of this world. There are also people claiming to be Christian going down this road as well, and most don’t even know it. The Bible states in Matthew 7:22-23:

“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

These were people that thought they were doing right, but were counting on their own goodness for salvation, putting them on the broad road in the end. It’s also deceptive. If the narrow gate leads to Christ, God, and Heaven-- then the broad road must belong to Satan and leads to hell. It is Satan’s nature to be deceptive. He has been a liar from the beginning. He’s cunning and tricky, which is what makes it difficult at times to discern which road we are on.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” – Proverbs 16:25

As I sat outside finishing off my cup of coffee, I started praying that I would be one of the “few who find it.” My life may be more difficult right now compared to other options, but it’s a start in the right direction. If I must suck in my gut and hold my breath, I will do what it takes, and (God-willing) I will get through the narrow gate.
