Publisher’s Points to Ponder:

We are in this together

I caught up with friends for a “girl’s day during the Christmas break. We shared updates about our lives between manicures, pedicures and mouth-watering appetizers. There was a common theme streaming through our stories.

A few days later, I was blown away by the hurt in another friend’s voice as he shared the obstacles he is currently facing. Through the years he has proven to be a strong and confident man. I never imagined his esteem would sink in any circumstance; but it happened. I know others who’ve experienced the same let-down, including me.

Today as I write this, I am thinking about all the stories I’ve heard and shared last year, and I can see the common theme resurfacing in all these stories. The theme is that we are more alike than we are different.

It does not matter who we are or what our external differences may be, we have the same or similar struggles in life. Our struggles bring us closer together. For example, have you ever had a conversation with a stranger and connect instantly when the two of you realize that you’re facing a similar situation? Do you recall when our nation faces a crisis, such as 9/11, we join forces? We come together for the greater good.

Often, knowing that others can relate to what you’re going though can make you stronger. Therefore, it is important to talk to people. Share your experiences and listen to other people share theirs.

Lets forge ahead into 2020 with the peace that comes from knowing that we are all in this together.
