Olney Senior Cub Center Chats
Two great ladies left this earthly life last week, and they both lived long, productive and happy lives surrounded by loving children and friends.
Dale Bullock and his siblings lost their mom, Joyce. Her visitation was Monday evening in Graham, with her funeral service Tuesday morning. Many friends shared their most delightful memories at her visitation, mixed with a few tears, warm hugs and laughter about some of her antics. She was dearly loved!
Cully Williams and his sister Trudy also lost their mother. Martha Williams was a delightful lady and a pillar of strength here in Olney. Her sincere appreciation for any kindness shown her endeared her to many and revealed her tender nature. She came to the Cub Center before her health started declining, and that’s when I first encountered that sweet, grand lady. She was such a delight!
The Senior Cub Center sends our heartfelt condolences to these families and their friends at the losses, but we are so grateful they had many years of fun and happiness with those apron-bedecked women who lavished them with love.
Wow! We had a crowd for lunch Thursday! It was so great to meet new people and talk, talk, talk. Wendell Flanders brought his daughter, Susan Wilson and her hubby George Wilson; he said his cookin’ left a little to be desired, and he didn’t want them to suffer from it. What a delightful character Wendell is!
If anyone would like to donate roaster ovens to the Center, it would be a great help in preparing food for the large crowds we encounter at our fundraising meals. Contact the Center if you wish to help, even if it’s gently used.
That Bill Ballard has the neatest pickup truck! When I realized it was Bill behind the wheel, I complimented him on such a unique ride and asked him about it. He said it had been in his family for 50 years! Boy, they don’t make vehicles now like they used to!!
We often see compassion expressed by the animal kingdom when a dog adopts a cat or a raccoon. That is touching. When a young girl opens a lemonade stand and gives half of her proceeds to the Cub Center, that is a heart-touching and precious moment. Maybe a tear appears in the eye when hearing of this amazing deed. Well, this happened in our town! This tender, compassionate heart belongs to a girl in Olney, Texas! A special “Thank you” to Blake Butler for giving us this lesson of humility and compassion. A star in your crown, sweet girl!
Stay cool literally; stay cool, figuratively speaking, by showing compassion to others this week. Have a great week!
