Olney Senior Cub Center Chats
Thanksgiving was a big hit again this year. Driving down some streets here in Olney was a bit complicated at times since many more vehicles crowded close to the “chow down” houses, especially if two such houses were close together. But, how great to see so many families getting together -- wow, what a change from those pandemic days! Family connections are so important for stability in our lives.
The Cub Center served turkey dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 22. What a meal it was!! Turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, green bean casserole, hot rolls, and banana pudding made us wobble a bit after the gobble-a-lot. A delicious meal with the added bonus of deviled eggs provided by our director, Angela Lockard, was enjoyed by a room full of contented people. Our cook, Nancy Bowden, really outdid herself with that scrumptious meal. Thank you to all the staff for a repast fit for a king, served by happy smiling people!
Have you noticed the fly population has skyrocketed with this wintery weather? That rotting grain next to the Center really draws them in and they cover our vehicles, which are warming in the sunshine. Over a hundred of those pesky little insects greeted me as I was leaving, and guess where they went when I opened the door!?
You guessed it - inside! About twenty of those critters got in before the door was closed. Rolling down windows and shooing didn’t work well, but every time I stopped I’d roll windows down and flail about trying to coax them out and met with some success. Those of you who may have seen me, I wasn’t having a seizure. Many stops and flailings later the intruders were down to six. Nighttime temperatures chilled them enough to stop their flying about, so as I headed out really early for an appointment the next morning, all was well--- until the warming vehicle woke my guests up! Flight began, erratic flight patterns often collided with my nose or ear (really annoying). A stop in Graham reduced the count by two, so I headed on to Willow Park hoping all would be well. Wrong! I socked myself in the nose trying to repel one pest that kept buzzing my face. I do think people gave me a wide berth after seeing my gyrations everytime I’d stop at a red light. That long duster I had proved to be quite helpful, and after one drowned itself in my glass of water, I was down to two. Two very energetic, acrobatic flies practiced their routines all the way back to Olney, but happily they departed when the window rolled down at Sonic! Ahhh!
Thanks to everyone who posted pictures of their holiday get-togethers. The happiness that beamed from them really brightened my day. Remember to spread sunshine and kindness on your daily journeys - you will be doubly blessed.
