IT’S HERE!! Autumn is here, or Fall, if you please. Last Friday morning gave testimony to that fact-- that cool 67 degree chilly air was certainly a welcome greeting. Just don’t get too excited yet; there are several more 90+ days left before we hit the 80’s. It’s time to get those Fall decorations out and on display. Get the hot chocolate mix ready and stock up on those fluffy little marshmallows so you’ll be ready for some nippy temperatures when they finally arrive. October is hot apple cider time, fireplace lighting time, Halloween time, and fruit pie time. Cinnamon and spice just go so well with cooler weather and ahh, that smell. Throw a couple of sticks of cinnamon, some cloves and allspice into a pan with water and let it simmer for a while -- your whole house will smell like a big ol’ apple pie! Oops, the old salivary glands are getting excited at the mere mention of such delectable odors. Pumpkin bread or creamy pumpkin pie are favorites of many people, or you can just use those pumpkins as cute decorations, if you’re not into the taste they produce.

OCTOBER 15 IS A DATE to remember! Mark it on your calenders and get ready to munch down on some taste bud delicacies in the form of pancakes slathered with butter and syrup, accompanied by breakfast meats, and steaming hot coffee. Yes, it’s the big Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Cub Center on Avenue B!! Tickets are on sale now for a great price of $7 per ticket. And, yes, we will have take-out plates available. There will be lower sugar syrup available to those of you who are battling blood sugar issues. Serving times are 7-11a.m., so set your alarms and come on down for good food and fellowship.

Last week we had to shut our door on Thursday because a gas line serving our area got busted and we could not cook anything. Apparently some contractors inadvertently broke it while doing a job, and about 1500 homes and businesses had their gas shut off. Atmos quickly recruited employees from all over our area who converged on Olney to restore our fuel supplies beginning Thursday evening. Each house had to be checked for leaks before getting the gas turned back on, so those guys worked until about midnight, then got up early Friday morning to continue their checks. The two young men who came to my house were wonderful! They were super polite and extremely efficient in caring out their jobs, and within minutes I had a working stove and a hot water heater reving up the heat. Accolades to Atmos and those sweet guys who got our ovens ready to bake some serious cakes! Thank you, thank you!

Thursday the 29th will be our birthday party for our September babies here at the Center. Come join us for a great time... and ice cream and cake, of course! Yum!

Be kind, be thoughtful, be a great example, BE KIND! Enjoy your life and enjoy each moment with your loved ones. Have a lovely week!
