After an eleven-hour drive, I pulled into Olney at 7 p.m. to face a temperature that was 60 degrees higher than my morning temp of 44. Welcome to Olney! Goodbye Colorado! It is good to be home to be with my buddies!

Guess who was one of the faces I saw when I arrived back in Olney? I’ll give you a hint: she has long legs that look like Thanksgiving thighs. Sure enough, when I turned onto my street, there she was preening herself in a neighbor’s yard. I am trying to come up with a name for her, maybe Gobblette or Gobblelena?? Anyway, I was impressed that she was there to greet me so I bought a bag of feed for her; she needs to fatten up by November.

We have a bunch of birthday people for August, so get ready to congratulate them when you see them: Betty Omholt - 8/6, Belinda Camp 8/9, Christi Garcia - 8/9, Barbara Walker- 8/13, Hubert Gray - 8/24, and James Ford 8/27. Give these people a pat on the back, a handshake, or a knuckle -bump to acknowledge their special days. We wish them a hearty Happy Birthday!

How blessed we are to have such caring individuals who go above and beyond to help those in need. When a “regular” meal deliverer goes on vacation or becomes ill, we are faced with a dilemma: who will step in to fill that role? Well, fortunately we have the following churches who step into that position: Monday: First United Methodist Church (children’s ministry) - deliverers Valorie Mahler and KiKi.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Church of Christ - Lauren Sullivan and kids Harris and Foster.

Thursday: Horizon Country Church - Frankie Bailey.

Friday: Southside Baptist Church Tinker Barker.

The Cub Center appreciates the compassion, service, and love demonstrated by these people who take time out of their day to make sure our seniors get their meals delivered by smiling faces and caring hearts. Thank you!!

It is so good to see Celia Alemon back playing “ Bingo” with us at the Center; she was dearly missed when she was out for several surgeries. Yep, she’s back as her spunky little self to delight us by her presence.

Edwana and Wade got a surprise when they started to Wichita for a doctor’s appointment last Monday. A tire decided to shed its tread in a very noisy way, which in turn changed the route they were taking. They limped back to Olney and got their spare put on and a tire ordered. The tire arrived the next day, so a happy Fikes family! All’s well that ends well!

A special “Thanks” to Barbara Walker for surprising us with her delicious deviled eggs to complement our Wednesday meal. So yummy!

Texoma Gives is just a month away so please consider the Cub Center when you pledge support. We appreciate any donations given to ensure the continued service we give through our Meals on Wheels program. As I open my pocketbook , I encourage you to do the same . Let’s make this a banner year!!

Don’t measure your success by the things you own. Measure it by the smiles you put on faces and the hearts warmed by your presence. Have a wonderful week.
