Non-Judgmental

Non-Judgmental

Matthew 7:1-5 1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Something I try very hard to work on and live by is not judging others. I have been seeing a great deal of this lately; it seems to be getting out of hand and creating a negative tidal wave sweeping across the media and social media. I am not perfect, and do catch myself thinking judgmental thoughts on occasion. I mean, there is so much weirdness and extreme behavior these days it is almost a daily battle to not feel all judge-y.

Just because we are not supposed to judge, however, does not mean we have to agree or approve of others’ lifestyle choices or behavior. Judging is left to God to do. It is still our job to study the Bible and live a Godly life to the best of our abilities.

I have seen firsthand how being judgmental has turned people away from the Christian community and the church. Most people who do talk negatively about Christians fail to understand that we are not perfect and make mistakes all the time, even on a daily basis. The difference is, we can receive forgiveness for our sins by speaking with God and asking for forgiveness and be purified in the blood of Jesus Christ. But this general negativity almost always begins with us imperfect Christians judging others - it’s not a good look at all. This is Will B. saying, let’s leave the judging to God and do our best to get people in the door of the Church, where the professionals (pastors) can have a chance to explain the word of God.
