Newcastle High School Senior: Keelie Blassingame

KC: “Life for me has not changed much. I still have all my responsibilities at work. All the city employees are still working hard to keep this city running smoothly during this time of crisis and they are doing a great job. Even though we are a public entity, we are doing our best to practice social distancing with our customers to keep them and us as safe as possible.

At home, it’s a little different since I have three women getting a little stir crazy, but we have really enjoyed spending time outside with the dogs and having meals on the front porch (not that that’s much different than normal this time of year for us). We have missed the freedom of getting to run up to Wichita to shop or go to the movies, but on the plus side, we have saved money.

My wife has been very busy creating strictly online lessons for her students at Newcastle, answering student and parent emails, and grading assignments. She can do this all in her PJs, but she’d much rather be dressed and at school with her kids.

My two highschool daughters have really figured out this online school business. They are doing great getting their work done. They definitely miss their friends, but not being at school doing work!

We are sad about our oldest daughter, who is a senior in high school, missing out on last part of her senior year and possibly graduation. We know it’s not the end of the world and there are much more serious issues, but it is still sad for her and all the other seniors. We are also sad that her mission trip to Canada this summer was cancelled.

I know that God is in control and we can trust Him no matter what. Bad things happen and it’s with His help that we will get through this.”
