My Nickel’s Worth

My Nickel’s Worth

October is one of my favorite months of the year. It is a time when we are in the middle of college football season and the baseball playoffs. As you all know I am the quite the sports fanatic, and this time of year is difficult to beat.

Here we are in the middle of October and the World Series is about to begin between the LA Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays. My Yankees did not make it unfortunately, but I look forward to watching a hard-fought series between two teams who both deserve to be there. This year is a bit different, with the World Series taking place in Arlington at the new Rangers Stadium. So far, the new globe life park looks to be an extraordinary new stadium, and I look forward to hopefully being able to visit the new park with the family next season!

When I think about the World Series, I have so many memories already, as I have watched every World Series since 2003 when my Yankees played the Florida Marlins. I was only six years old at the time, but I remember watching those games like it was just yesterday. I have seen some unforgettable World Series over the past 17 years, including my Yankees winning the World Series against the Phillies in 2009, the Cardinals defeating the Rangers in 2013( sorry Rangers fans), and the Cubs finally bringing home a World Series championship in 2016 for the first time in 108 years.

It is the dream of a every kid who plays baseball to some day be able to play in the World Series and it seems like not too long ago, that was me. It is so difficult to make the World Series in baseball because anything can happen on any given pitch no matter how talented your team is or how much money your team has. It has always been about which teams get hot at the right time as my favorite baseball player of all time, Derek Jeter, used to say. That saying has remained true this season as well, with the World Series matchup between the Dodgers and Rays being two teams that are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Dodgers have a payroll of roughly 230 million, while the Rays have a 28 million dollar payroll—that is quite the disparity, and that is what I love about baseball, it is about having a team that is clicking at the right time as these teams are. The memories throughout my life of the World Series make this time of year so special for me, and I look forward to seeing my Yankees play in it next season!
